The (so-called) Hannibal’s wall

The (so called) Hannibal's Wall is an archaeological site located at an altitude of 2,650 metersabove sea level in the commune of Liddes in Valais (Switzerland). The remains documented by archaeologists indicate that the site was occupied in the 1st century BC and bear witness to the conflicts that took place in the region between the Romans and the indigenous population. The study of the site and the discovery of other sites with similar characteristics provide a better understanding of the Romanization of the Valais and Val d'Aoste, in particular the control of the Great StBernard Pass, the most important route linking the southern and northern Alps.

A didactical path allows hikers from Liddes, Bourg-St-Pierre or the Cabane de Mille to discover the results of over a decade of research on the site. The round trip takes about a day.

Below you’ll find more information on how to access the site, as well as the content of the panels alongside the trail and the audio recordings available to the public on the site via a QR code.

The content is available in four languages: French, English, German and Italian.

A leaflet is available at tourist offices in the region.

This project was realized by the RAMHA association (www.ramha.ch), in collaboration with a number of partners, whose names are listed below.
