N.9 – Plan du Pey

Bourg-St-Pierre

This route above the village offers views of Bourg-Saint-Pierre and the whole Entremont valley.

This trail takes you to the slopes of the Pointe de Penne, located east of the village of Bourg-Saint-Pierre.

The route is mostly in the forest, but there is a nice view of the old village of Bourg-Saint-Pierre before entering the Combe du Valsorey and the descent to the starting point.

Author\s note

Admire the village bell tower which celebrated its millennium in 2015 and is one of the oldest in the Valais!

Directions

Start from the bell tower in the centre of Bourg-Saint-Pierre and cross the village to the east, then to the south, passing under the international Great St. Bernard road.

The loop is then marked out in both directions. In this instance, we are detailing the route that starts in the north and makes four 180° turns in the forest.

Continue north to reach the top of the route, which then returns south and slightly downhill to reach the entrance of the Combe du Valsorey. Then make a 180° right turn to go back down to the village.

Getting there

Exit the highway in Martigny at the 22-Gd-St-Bernard interchange. Take the right lane to follow the E27 road towards Chamonix/Gd-St-Bernard/Verbier/Martigny-Expo. At the exit of the Martigny bypass tunnel, take the direction of Gd-St-Bernard/Italy, then leave the main road at Bourg-Saint-Pierre by turning slightly to the right.

Free parking is located in front of the town hall. From there, walk to the beginning of the trail 300 m away at the foot of the bell tower.

Take the train from Martigny (track 50) to Orsières then the bus to Bourg-St-Pierre. From the bus stop, walk to the beginning of the trail 300 m away at the foot of the bell tower.
