Photo book of Champex-Lac “Alt. 1465”

Description

Italian-Belgian photographer Fabrizio Prosperi has produced a beautiful book of photographs of Champex-Lac. Divided into two parts, the first is like a photographic walk around the lake, highlighting the beauty of the landscape in Switzerland’s ‘Little Canada’, while the second, focusing on heritage, highlights the emblematic sites of this resort in the Pays du St-Bernard. Fabrizio Prosperi, born in Charleroi, Belgium, in 1973, spent his youth at the foot of the slag heaps and collieries. With a bachelor’s degree in accounting (Bac+3), nothing predestined him to become a photographer; it was when he enrolled his daughter in a multi-disciplinary workshop at the Alphonse Darville Academy of Fine Arts that he was tempted by courses in artistic photography. His teachers enabled him to develop what he considered to be the most important aspect of photography: the personal eye! The way you look at people, places, things – in short, at Life. With this new way of looking at things, Fabrizio rediscovered the remnants of the industrial past that had always fascinated him, the emblematic, abandoned sites of ‘his’ Black Country. He then devoted his first photographic series to this heritage.

Fascinated by the Star Wars saga, he set himself a challenge: to photograph ‘real’ characters from G. Lucas’ work in these places steeped in history. Blackland, The Lost Empire revealed him to the public. To complement this series, he published the book Explorations Charleroi, published by Éditions du Basson; a photographic exploration of Charleroi’s rich past, recontextualised and intended above all as a work of remembrance of those traces of yesteryear that are gradually disappearing. His work was praised by the Wallonia-Brussels Industrial Heritage Association and by the Belgian Federal Secretary of State for Recovery and Strategic Investment.
