N. 34 Trappers’ Trail

Champex-Lac

Challenging hike to reach the Breya from the Champex-Lac resort.

Behind the lake of Champex, the “sentier des Trappeurs” follows the mountain on the hillside up to the top of the Val Ferret and then climbs very steeply to deserve the panorama that the Breya offers.

Author\s note

The descent to the resort can be done with the Breya chairlift (one of the steepest in Switzerland!) or by the Val d’Arpette where it takes about 2 hours.

Directions

Departure from the parking lot of Le Revers, follow the road around the lake. Behind the playground, turn right towards the sentier des Trappeurs. The path skirts the mountain on the south side before climbing up a steep path to the top of La Breya.

Getting there

Exit the motorway at Martigny. Follow the direction Grand-Saint-Bernard then leave the main road at Orsières and follow Champex-Lac.

It is also possible to leave the main road at Bovernier and go through Les Valettes but the road is narrow and very winding.

Free parking by the lake

Take the train to Orsières and then the bus to Champex-lac.
