Directions
Day 1 Ascent to the Argentière Hut 2771m
Ride the Grand Montets cable car to the middle station, ascent to Ref. Argentière. Approx. 2.5 hours; 600m ascent
Day 2 Col Passon-Col Supérieur du Tour-Col des Escandies-Champex: Ascent to Col Passon 3028m and further over the two passes Col Supérieur and Col des Escandies. After several ascents and descents, a long descent through the Val d’Arpett to Champex awaits us. Continue by taxi to Bourg St. Pierre. Overnight in a guesthouse. Approx. 7-8 hours; 1000m ascent, 2000m descent.
Day 3 Ascent to the Valsorey Hut 3030m: Ascent to the Cab. de Valsorey hut 3030m. Approx. 5-6 hours; 1400m ascent.
Day 4 Ascent Plateau du Couloir-Col du Sonadon-Chanrion Hut 2462m: Ascent via the Plateau du Couloir 3650m and Col du Sonadon 3504m to the Cab. Chanrion hut 2462m. Approx. 6-7 hours; 900m ascent, 1900m descent.
Day 5 Ascent over the Otemma Glacier to the Vignette Hut 3158m: Via the Glacier d’Otemma to the Cabane des Vignettes. Descent 100m, ascent 800m. Under good conditions over the Glacier de la Serpentine to Pigne d’Arolla 3787m and descent to the Cabane des Vignettes. Ascent 1400m, descent 500m.
Day 6 Over the three passes Evêque-Brûlé and Valpelline to Zermatt: Over the passes Col de l’Évêque, Col du M. Brûlé and Col de Valpelline we descend via the Schönbiel hut to Zermatt. Approx. 8 hours; 1400m ascent, 2400m descent. After an impressive week, a visit to Zermatt is not to be missed. Return to the starting point by taxi or train.
