Perched at an altitude of 2473 m, the Auberge de l'Hospice offers a warm and comfortable welcome in the fabulous natural setting of the Col du Grand-Saint-Bernard. A new team welcomes you in a completely renovated building, under the management of the Leslie and Patrick Bonaud-Pierroz family.
Open every summer from 1 June to 15 October, the Auberge complements and supports the hospitality of the Chanoines du Grand-Saint-Bernard, the monks who have been welcoming travellers on the Col for almost a thousand years. The Auberge de l’Hospice offers 30 rooms with two or three beds, all with private bathroom and WiFi access. We also welcome groups and seminars.
Our restaurant serves fine cuisine based on local, seasonal produce and local Valais dishes. Our speciality is the St-Bernard fondue. For dessert, you can enjoy the Grand Entremont séracline. In our souvenir shop, you’ll find chocolate, the famous St-Bernard stuffed dogs, items from the famous “Via Francigena” and a range of monastic products.
A paradise for hikers surrounded by marmots, this border pass between Switzerland and Italy is also an important heritage site. Opposite the Auberge, the door of the Hospice is still open: there is a baroque church and the Treasure Room. The Museum traces the history of the Great St Bernard, from the Roman remains to the mountain’s plants and animals. And don’t miss a visit to the Barry Foundation’s Saint Bernard dog farm: the famous breed of avalanche dog was born here on the Col. You can even book a walk with one of these brave dogs!
