N. 24 Tour du Saint-Bernard

The Tour du Saint-Bernard is 6 to 7 days trek between the famous Tours of Mont Blanc and Combins.

On horseback between Switzerland and Italy, you will progress on wild roads still uncrowded, through the natural reserve of the Combe de l’A, through typical Swiss villages such as Bourg-St-Pierre or Italian as Saint- Rhémy, on famous passes including the most famous: the Great Saint Bernard with his hospice kept and opened by canons for almost 1000 years and his famous dogs!

Stage 1 Bourg-St-Pierre – Grand-St-Bernard Pass

From the heart of the last Swiss village up the Saint-Bernard valley, we take the old road leading to the Toules dam. Just below the alpine pasture of La Lettaz, we follow the lake and then start the ascent to the alpine pasture of La Pierre. The climb becomes steeper to reach the Combe de Drône and then the Col des Chevaux. A beautiful crossing allows us to reach the hospice of Grand Saint-Bernard at 2472m.Stage 2 Col du Grand-St-Bernard – FrassatiThe beginning of our hike takes us to Italy. We pass the Baus mountain pasture and then already the descent ends with the crossing and the small ascent to the Col Saint-Rhémy. We continue in very wild landscapes through the Col des Ceingles before reaching the Frassati hut 300 meters below. Stage 3 Frassati – Italian Val FerretThe first ascent allows us to reach the Malatra pass located at more than 2900 m of altitude to enjoy a breathtaking panorama on the suspended glaciers of the Mont Blanc massif. We join the Italian Val Ferret to sleep in Bonatti or Lavachey.

Stage 4 Italian Val Ferret – Swiss Val Ferret

We join the Tour du Mont-Blanc route for this stage and leave Italy for Switzerland, a less alpine landscape, passing the Grand Col Ferret at 2453m. The first part of the descent of the pass brings us to the mountain pasture of La Peule to spend the night or continue to Ferret/La Fouly.

Stage 5 Swiss Val Ferret – Cabane de la Tsissette

The morning hike leads us to the Col du Basset… nearly 1200 m of difference in altitude! Chamois, ibexes and marmots make us forget the effort and the panorama fills us with wonder… From here, a beautiful descent awaits us to the Tsissette hut.

Stage 6 Cabane de la Tsissette – Cabane de Mille

Beautiful descent in the heart of the natural reserve of La Combe de L’A which allows us to reach the village of Liddes. The climb that takes us from Liddes to the Mille hut at 2450m altitude is short but arduous…A hut located at the pass between the Val de Bagnes and the valleys of Saint-Bernard, at the foot of the Petit Combin and facing the most beautiful alpine massifs; the breathtaking panorama will make you forget the effort!

Stage 7 Cabane de Mille – Bourg-St-Pierre

Will you be bold and ambitious enough to climb Mont Rogneux at 3082m? If you don’t want to climb to the summit, you will take the path that leads to Bourg-Saint-Pierre through the Entremont mountain pastures. From the mountain pasture of Boveire, we go down through the forest to the village where we finish this trekking.
