Champex-Lac

Champex-Lac

A nice loop that will make you discover different roads and paths on the coast and the lake of Champex. We also enter the beginning of the Val Ferret, which may give you the desire to go even higher in this beautiful valley.

A loop that will allow us to discover different paths and villages of our region. The idea here is really to take time and pleasure without necessarily wanting to go from a point A to a point B as quickly as possible. Most of the paths and dirt roads are very little used and very pleasant to ride.

The lake of Champex is a must-see place in the region. In autumn, it’s just magical…

Directions

The itinerary takes several different roads and paths, so it is important to import the track to not get lost. Afterwards, it is possible to follow different paths to have more or less the same loop, so no stress if you pass another road.

Starting from the station of Orsières or join first the village of la garde to return then on a splendid way which was formerly a bisse. Once in Champex, enjoy the lake and its surroundings, the track takes you up a little in the forest to have a unique view on the lake.

On the way back down, we will dive into the beginning of the Val Ferret to prolong the pleasure. On this loop, two portages are necessary on small paths, each one lasts only 50-100m and allows us to join other routes.

Getting there

Exit the highway in Martigny at the 22-Gd-St-Bernard interchange. Take the right lane to follow the E27 road towards Chamonix/Gd-St-Bernard/Verbier/Martigny-Expo. At the exit of the Martigny bypass tunnel, take the direction Gd-St-Bernard/Italie, then exit the main road at Orsières and follow the signs for the train station.

Parking spaces are available at the back of the dairy if you wish to leave the vehicle for the day.

Possibility to arrive by train from Martigny and to go down 1km from the station to reach the dairy.
